Do姐去shopping (DoDo Goes Shopping): London : Charbonnel et Walker

Appearing in Do姐去shopping (DoDo Goes Shopping) episode 12/15.

Address : One The Royal Arcade, 28 Old Bond Street, London, W1S 4BT, United Kingdom.

Declare as 英國皇室御用朱古力. Founded in London’s Bond Street in 1875 when Madame Charbonnel departed Paris with Mrs. Walker to open the most beautiful chocolate shop in London.

Mrs. Walker, originally a hat box and jewellery box maker, had been introduced to Madame Charbonnel. Keen to learn the art of making fine chocolates, she moved to Paris to be trained by Madame Charbonnel and soak up the atmosphere of the Parisian chocolate houses of the late nineteenth century.

Travelling back and forth, both ladies had now returned to London with a simple premise: to make delicious chocolates presented in beautiful gift boxes.

Excited by the reputation that awaited them, for King Edward VII – then the Prince of Wales, an ardent admirer of their delicious chocolates had championed their arrival.

Their first store opened on 173 New Bond Street. Filled with the finest chocolate treats, all beautifully presented to exacting standards in hand-painted boxes, crystal vases and embroidered satin bags.

Do姐再Shopping went to Shibukawa, Gunma Prefecture for Mizusawa Udon Noodles, appear in episode 05/15

Known for its firm chewiness and translucency, Mizusawa udon boasts over 400 years of history, and is considered one of Japan's three great styles of udon noodles, alongside Akita's Inaniwa udon and Kagawa's Sanuki udon.

Known for its chewy texture and smooth feel, traditionally made with local wheat flour, salt, and Mt. Mizusawa's spring water, often served cold with dipping sauces or in warm broth. The main area to find it is the Mizusawa Kannon Road, lined with historic shops offering unique variations, making it a must-try delicacy in Gunma.

Do姐去shopping (DoDo Goes Shopping): Paris, Cire Trudon

Appearing in Do姐去shopping episode 5/15, Do姐 went to TRVDON.

Dates back to the 17th century, year 1643. Known as the royal wax manufacture. The Trudons were officially the owners of the royal wax manufactory that created candles for Louis XIV, Louis XV, Louis XVI and later to Napoleon. Based upon the Trudon’s family experience, they perfected the art of candle manufacturing. Back then, the motto of the company was "Deo Regique Laborant," meaning to work for God and the King. They made the best candles for the highest spheres of society. Candles were made with one hundred percent beeswax which was the specialty of the Trudon family and the royal wax manufacture.

Address : Paris Rive Gauche. 78 rue de seine 75006 Paris

Song Discovery : Don't Tell Her (What's Happened to Me), 1930

Song : Don't Tell Her (What's Happened to Me)

Music by Ray Henderson

Lyrics by Buddy G. DeSylva & Lew Brown

This song is a rare gem. From the movie The Champ 1931, starring Wallace Beery & Jackie Cooper.  Sings while Dink (Jackie Cooper) awaiting his mother & loitering around the terrace across the roof top. Not all the songs from the old movies can become the likes legacy of American Song Book. (e.g "Cheek to Cheek", "Over The Rainbow", "A Foggy Day" etc.). If not the movie, this song would be lost in the wheel of time.

There are only 17 versions of the songs published since released in 1930. My favorite by Isham Jones & His Orchestra with Vocal refrain by Eddie Stone.

3. Jerry Vale - You Don't Know Me

4. Four Aces - Love is a Many Splendored Thing

Published by Sony CBS, Year : 1982

Comment : Saw this once displayed in a music shop back in my school days. I think the price about USD 3.10 (around 1990)

Note : I'm not selling nor do I owned this album. Just curious about the songs' selection. Back in the day when songs are not an easy access commodity, Sony, the publisher only fill in 4 songs per side. Total 8 songs. I can imagine the runtime only about 20 minutes with about 10 minutes per side. It would be a great inconvenient to flip after each run.
